so, i'm gearing up for some new writing projects and i'm also seriously considering a change of venue for This Side. i'm curious to know who is still reading me here in lj-land. i'm going to leave this post up for a week. in the meantime, if anyone has suggestions for other blog sites to move to, lay 'em on me. now is also a good time to offer up any editorial feedback you've got in your hip pocket. thanks, guys. your support has been a tremendous encouragement over the last 6 years.

with that said though, I've been thinking along the same lines. Somewhere else a little less intimate.

I check in to LJ every once in a while to see if you've written anything and to look at a few photo blogs. No one else really posts much here anymore, nor do I, but I love to read what you write, so I'd be happy to just look at your new blog if you moved elsewhere. xoxo

I'm here...too bad LJ isn't
I don't know why LJ seems to be in decline. I read my friends list every day.

I think you might be ready to get your own site, with wordpress or something.. throw up some ads and let the ranting begin (or continue as it were).

whatever you choose to do.. you can always at an rss syndication to keep your posts coming here.

I'm also a bit of a fan of tumblr.com cool tumble blog that you can cross post everywhere.

I'm on tumblr and dig it mainly for it's customizing control. Although free wordpress (.com) might have more features you might benefit from right outta the box, something tumblr doesn't readily have I don't think.

I read LJ most of the time, not all the time, sometimes I take a break, but I usually catch up later on.

for most of the other bloggy sites and pretty much every run it yourself software does rss feeds. LJ can read a rss feed, so if you move, peeps who still look at lj can still read your writing.

the blogger.com interface blows in my opinion. I like wordpress the software, and assume that wordpress.com blogs run on more or less that. That's the sum total of my thoughts on other blogging platforms.

If you're feeling extra fancy, I recommend dreamhost.com, and getting their cheapest hosting option, having your own domain, use their one click install of wordpress, and rocking from there.

I'd recommend this route, too. complete control of your personal site is a wonderful thing.

I still read LJ because all you good far-flung friends are still here!

But if you want to move on, may I suggest Vox, which has loads of fun customizable options and allows you to crosspost to all your other blogs as well...that way you can post to Vox and cc LJ so that we're still in the loop.
